Fighting for healthcare workers and patients.

2025 Hospital Administrator Licensure

Connecticut’s Senate Bill #7 contains a section that would create a new license for hospital administrators. Why? Because administrators should be held to the same safety standards as doctors and nurses - DO NO HARM. Join the movement to hold administrators accountable!

Safe Staffing Bill

On June 12, 2023 the governor signed HB 6941, which included changes to nurse staffing requirements for hospitals in CT.

This new bill gives direct care registered nurses (DCRNs) more power to determine the nursing ratios in each unit. DCRNs now must always have a majority on the staffing committees whenever the committee votes on staffing decisions.

Nurses across Connecticut are reporting unbearable work conditions. It doesn’t have to be this way.

Hospital executives are making millions off of lean staffing models that limit direct nursing care for patients. Many CT residents in hospitals and nursing homes are receiving only 50% of the nursing care that they require.

Executives protect this model by claiming there is a nursing shortage. This is untrue. Of the 86,000 licensed nurses in CT, only 44,000 are practicing as a nurse in CT. While hospitals ask for state funds to increase the outflow of new graduate nurses, retention of experienced nurses has plummeted. Nurses can no longer bear the moral distress of watching patients suffer and not having the resources to help them.

Who are we?

We are nurses concerned about the current state of healthcare.

What do we want?

1. Safe, tolerable conditions for all healthcare workers.

2. High-quality and safe patient care.

3. Transparency and accountability in healthcare.

Let’s make things better, together.
